Imphal, January 13, 2012:
As part of its education campaign 'Eikhoi Lairik Ningthina Tamshi', Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has started surprise visits to boardings, hostels and tuition centres to find out how they are being run and to monitor whether the students are being taught proper lesson or not.
The student body has also announced that it would start extending necessary assistance to students belonging to BPL families from the current academic session.
Talking to mediapersons in connection with the campaign at its Sega Road Konjeng Hazari Leikai office here today, Vice President of MSF L Umakanta explained that the surprise visits to boardings, hostels and tuition centres has been started following receipt of numerous complaints that most of the students are becoming more fashion conscious and spending their times in park and cinema houses instead of concentrating on their lessons.
On the first day of the campaign today, surprise visits have been conducted at 10 hostels located along Tiddim Road.
During these visits, parents/guardians were found coming to visit their children.
This is a good development because most parents are of the impression that their responsibility is over once their children have been lodged in some boardings or hostels, Umakanta pointed out.
Wardens of the hostels and boardings were also found taking care of the students properly and following strict rules, he conveyed, while appealing to all for co-operation in the ensuring the students lodging in hostels and boardings do not loiter around.
The hostels, boardings and tuition centres which were covered during the surprise checks today include HRD Boys' Hostel, Swaraswati Boys' Hostel, COMET, AK Rohini Boys' Hostel, Nirmala Hostel, Hostel Mamton, Tombi Hostel, Imphal Boys' Hostel, Ibeni Boys' Hostel and IPS.
