With the danger of a drought like situation looming over the State due to the scanty rainfall this Monsoon, the Cabinet last night decided to accept the recommendations and reports submitted by the Committee to deal with the situation.
As per the recommendations of the Committee, headed by the Chief Secretary, the Cabinet has agreed to set aside Rs 4 crores to procure pump sets, repair old ones and develop the Loktak Lift Irrigation Scheme, to help the farmers irrigate their fields to over come the drought like situation.
The Cabinet agreed to immediately release half of the Rs 4 crores recommended by the Committee and start the relevant works.
As the time has already passed to plant the nursery, the Agriculture Department has been entrusted with the task of making the nurseries available to the farmers.
The IFCD and Minor Irrigation have also been asked to contribute their mite.
