Imphal, July 07:
BJP Manipur Pradesh today staged a sit-in-protest against the hike in the prices of petroleum products at the Keishampat Junction here from 10 am to 4 pm.
A large number of party workers including president Th Chaoba, former party Ministers and leaders took part in the demonstration.
While the demonstration was in progress, three BJP MPs namely Thawarchal Gehlot, Girdharilal Bhargawa and Chatirpal Singh landed at the venue at around 2.30 pm and joined in the demonstration for sometime.
Although the occasion was to register protest hike in prices of the Petroleum products by the UPA Government at the Centre, all those who spoke on the occasion, including the State unit party president Chaoba launched scathing attacks on the anti-people policies of the SPF Government.
They maintained that the State Govt has not been doing anything to end the deadlock over the imposition of indefinite economic blockade by ANSAM along the two National Highways of the State.
Inspite of the fact that the indefinite economic blockade being called by ANSAM along the National Highways has completed 17 days, the State Government has not been able to bring about an amicable solution with the agitators to end the deadlock, they said.
While pointing out that the stock of many essential food items in the markets are running out and the prices of essential commodities have hit an all time high, they observed that such attitude of the Government would not go down well with the people.
