Imphal, June 12:
It was a long wait, indeed, for many students and their parents/guardians before they could finally see the roll numbers 'either appearing or missing' from the results of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination, 2004 which was declared late evening today.
Controller of Examination of Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM) L Rajmohan Singh announced yesterday in all leading State dailies and on radio that the results would be declared by 10 am today, and for the convenience of the net savvy generation next, it would also be made available on website http://maniresults.nic.in.
Accordingly, students and their parents/guardians virtually stormed the offices of the State dailies since early morning despite the 18-hour general strike called given by Manipur Forward Youth Front (MAFYF).
The unceasing pre-monsoon drizzle that has been playing spoilsport could dampen their spirit.
The scene was also the same in front of State Central Library here as Chief Librarian yesterday announced that the examinees could know the results along with marks secured by them free of cost from Community Information Centre attached to the Library.
However, many were disappointed on seeing the notice put up on the securely sealed gate stating that the results of the HSLC is 'likely after late night, June 12' and the office of the CIC would open on Monday as tomorrow being Sunday.
When The Sangai Express contacted yesterday, a staffer of BSEM had even informed that as many as 27 tabulators were staying overnight to finalize the results and 11 computers pressed into service for processing to ensure result declaration by today morning.
However, with protracted delay in declaring the results without giving any reasons, many of the students and their parents were left fuming.
HSLC examination being the first public examination and the most important one for that matter that a student has to go through and the result of which will determine the course of his/her future academic career, the anguish and anxiety writ large on the faces of the sea of humanity waiting for declaration of the result was quite obvious.
The situation was quite tense at the gate of BSEM office at Babupara where some of the irate students and parents even tried to break down the gate with some media-persons also joining in the frenzy.
The situation was calmed down at around 5 o'clock in the evening on learning that the results could be known through internet.
The otherwise quiet cyber cafes wore a different look with all the systems being thronged by eager and enthusiastic matric candidates ready to pay any amount just to surf to get their results.
For reasons best known to itself, BSEM delayed in releasing the hard copy results of the examination to the newspapers houses a good two hours after it has been made available on the net.
Cyber, cafe proprietors virtually earned blue notes of money from the students.
They charged anything between Rs 10 to 20 for printed results with statement of the mark secured from the students.
Predictably, the results of the HSLC Examination this year too was a dismal one with only 36 percentage of the total 26,960 candidates appeared managed to find a place among the 'happier lots'.
As usual, girls outshone boys and private schools fare better than the Government schools.
