The results of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination, 2004 conducted by Board of Secondary Education, Mani-pur (BSEM) was declared today with girls outshining boys although the pass percentage of boys bettered that of the girl students.
However, the overall pass percentage in the examination still present a dismal low of 36 percent.
Debina Longjam of Little Flower School, Imphal secured the coveted first position with an enviable 592 aggregate marks out of 600 with star marks in English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science and Humanities.
Lourembam Gayatri of Tiny Tot's Unique School, Imphal trailed the topper with 16 marks clinched the second spot with star marks in Mathematics, Science, Social Science and Humanities, leaving the third slot for Ravichandra Singh Takhellambam of St Joseph's School, Imphal with 569 marks and letters marks in Manipuri, Mathematics, Science, Social Science and CSC.
Among the first ten top positions shared among 14 students, eight girl students did their respective school proud.
The fourth position is jointly shared by Andrea Tongbram of Nirmalabas School, Imphal and Thokchom Bijeshuiohini Devi of Little Flower School, Imphal, both scoring 563 marks.
Other toppers who found a place of honour at the top in and the marks secured by them are Khumanthem Jemson Singh of Little Master English (5th position-561 marks), Tulsirani Chanamthabam of Nirmalabas (6th position - 552), Angom Teresa of Brighter Academy, Imphal (7th - 551), Rajani Saikhom of Nirmalabas and Laishram Oken Singh shared the 8th position with each scoring 550 marks, Brahmacharimayum Paresh Sharma of St Joseph's School and Thangjam Sanatomba Singh of Little Master English School also shared the 9th position with both culling 549 marks.
The same is true for the 10th position with Olivia Nameirakpam of Little Flower and Thounaojam Ropeshtajit Singh of St Joseph's sharing the honour with scores of 548 marks each.
Altogether 26,960 students had appeared in the examination out of which 11205 are male regular candidates, 9720 female regular, 2996 male external and 3039 female external candidates.
1822 students passed in the first division, 4760 of them in second division and 3171 of them in third division.
