All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has urged the Principal of LMS Law College and the proscribed KYKL to clarify on why the students union elections is banned in the institute.
Speaking in a press conference held in this regard at its headquarters, AMSU Secretary General Md Alamgir said that the institute is not having its students union since 2007-2008 tenure.
The Secretary General added that the students union fund of the only law institute of the State is going wasted due to the absence of a students body.
He added that in order to break the lull, Education (U) and Principal of the college issued separate election notifications on April 12 and 19 respectively.
According to the notification, he added, April 27 has been fixed for filing nomination papers, April 28 for scrutiny and April 30 for election.
However, to everybody's surprise, the Principal in a press release pleaded to let the institute to hold elections, he said.
According to the Principal, Md Alamgir said, the proscribed KYKL has asked the institute not to hold the students union election.
The Principal however did not mention why the outfit has banned conducting of elections in the institute, Md Alamgir added.
He further informed the reporters that Principal's office has been burnt down by unknown persons today.
Saying that the institute is currently defunct in various students related activities with the absence of a union, he urged the Principal and KYKL to clarify why institute is not allowed to hold elections.
