Imphal, April 28 2010:
The 24-hour statewide general strike imposed by the JAC Against the Killing of L Amudon concluded peacefully with much impact in other parts of the state except along the Imphal-Ukhrul section of the NH-150 where bandh supporters took to the streets and burnt tyres, debris and wood to block the normal traffic.
Meanwhile, the JAC formed against the killing of Amudon has decided to go ahead with other forms of agitations demanding clarification from the underground group responsible for the shooting to death of Leirenlakpam Amudon alias Ibomcha on April 22 last.
During the general strike commenced from last midnight, bandh supporters took to the streets at Swambung area along the Imphal-Ukhrul section of the NH-150 and burnt down woods, debris and tyres on the road to block the traffic.
Imphal east police dispersed the bandh supporters to resume the normal traffic.
Normal life in other part of the state was not disturbed by the bandh by and large as plying of all kinds of vehicles including passenger and commercial were seen on the road.
The bandh has concluded midnight tonight.
Meanwhile, Convener of the JAC, W Ibomcha said that the JAC will hold a meeting with local clubs, meira paibis and other civil bodies of the Uyumpok and it's surrounding to chalk out further course of agitation.
The meeting will be convened at 1 pm tomorrow, he said expressing gratitude to the people and civil bodies that extended support to the general strike.
He also appealed to co-operate with the JAC in further course of agitations.
