Imphal, April 28 2010:
All Club, Organisation, Association and Meira Paibi Lup (ACOAM-Lup), Kangleipak has appealed for a resolution to the ongoing confrontation between the State Government and the tribal bodies like ANSAM and UNC over the election of Autonomous District Council so as to ensure lifting of the economic blockade along the National Highways in the interest of the people.
Objecting to the conduct of election to the Autonomous District Councils under the Manipur Hill Area District Council (3rd Amendment) Act, 2008, tribal bodies like All Naga Students' Union, Manipur (ANSAM) and United Naga Council (UNC) have been imposing indefinite economic blockade along National Highway39 and NH-53 since April 12 .
Addressing a press conference in this connection at its office located opposite to DC office of Imphal West here today, president of ACOAM-Lup Indrakumar Ningombam observed that the ongoing confrontation between the Government of Manipur and tribal bodies like ANSAM, UNC, etc has compounded the problem of the people.
Imposition of economic blockade in pursuance of any demand to the Government is not in the interest of the people who are already besieged with numerous problems.
Such agitations only make the businessmen and traders happy.
So the Government and the agitating tribal bodies should arrive at an amicable solution at the earliest through talks, Indrakumar pleaded.
He also pointed out that a ruling of the Supreme Court had earlier banned imposition of economic blockade along the National Highways which causes suffering to the people.
So continued imposition of economic blockade is against the interest of the people, he said.
