Newly inducted Agriculture Minister Nameirakpam Loken has exhorted all the staff of District Agriculture Offices and officials of the head office of Agriculture Department to take up field works instead of confining themselves in paper works at Sanjenthong.
The Agriculture Minister was speaking at the reception ceremony organised in his honour by the officials and staff of the Department of Agriculture at Sanjenthong today.
Asserting that he has learnt of many Agriculture offices located in the nine districts of Manipur not functioning properly, he noted that the Agriculture officers and their staff should go to the fields to develop agriculture sector in the State and to make the Agriculture offices purposeful.
Assuring that district level and State level crop competitions for farmers which was suspended for some years will be definitely organised this year, Loken said that provision of power tillers and tractors to farmers at subsidised rate will continue this year too.
Stressing on the importance of agriculture in the overall economy of a State, Loken remarked that development of this sector largely depends on the commitment of all the officials and staff of the Agriculture Department.
Saying that he is not an expert in the field, the Minister sought positive suggestions from the Agriculture experts and officials for development of agricultural sector in the state.
The ceremony was also attended by Agriculture Commissioner Letkhogen Haokip and Director N Ibochouba.
