Imphal, July 23:
Following the decision of the all political party meeting to hand over the responsibility of convening a special session of the Assembly to discuss the Delimitation exercise as well as other pressing issues, a single sitting of the Assembly has been convened on July 31.
Even as the date of Assembly has been decided upon, a team of MPP leaders today called on Governor Dr SS Sidhu to apprise him of the ground reality and to use his office so that the Delimitation exercise, based on the contentious 2001 Census report, is not carried
out.
In case the Delimitation is exercised, then three Assembly segments of the valley area will go to the hill districts.
The MPP team was led by its president Dr L Chandramani and the other members present in the meeting with the Governor included, MLAs O Joy, Shyamkumar, RK Anand and Dr Y Ibohalbi.
Later speaking to the media at the MPP office, Dr Chandramani said that the Governor has been urged to stop the Delimitation exercise as a change in the distribution of the Assembly segments could lead to more chaos and confusion.
The Governor gave a patient hearing, added Chandramani.
Since the 2001 Census report was full of errors and loopholes, if the Delimitation exercise is taken up according to this figure then it has all the potential to throw the State into disarray, observed Chandramani.
The MPP leader further said that the failure of the PDS the complete failure of the PDS was also highlighted to the Governor.
The Governor was also urged to look into the work taken up by the FCS Minister as well as its officials.
