It's time for relevant experts to do a detail study on the impacts/sufferings caused to mental health of the people by the existing issue of insurgency, said RIMS Superintendent Y Mohen while addressing the World Mental Health Day observance at RIMS Jubilee Hall today.
Dr Mohen observed that the insurgency movement inflicted mental sufferings to different degrees on all sections of the society including children.
However, there has been no proper research till date on the ailments/sufferings caused by the insurgency movement to the mental health of the people.
The facts have not been published, he said while asserting that it's time to study the risks posed by such a situation.
The observance was jointly organised by the India Psychiatry Society, Manipur State Branch, Rotary Club of Imphal, Department of Psychiatry and Department of Clinical Psychology, RIMS.
The World Mental Health Day is being observed on October 10 every year all over the world.
This year the World Mental Health Day was observed under the theme "Making Mental Health a Global Priority��Scaling up Services Through Citizen Advocacy and Action".
The observance was graced by MLA N Mangi, RIMS Superintendent Dr Y Mohen, president of Indian Psychiatry Society, Manipur State Branch Dr L Surchandra, Rotary Club Imphal president Dr Ksh Chourjit, Head of Psychiatry Department RIMS Dr N Heramani, Head of Clinical Psychology M Akshaykumar and Rotary Club of India, Community Services Director Dr Th Sudheeranjan as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA N Mangi noted that many people got afflicted with mental problems/ailments due to influences by his/her surrounding even though they have sound mental health at birth.
Wondering on the mental condition of the people of Heirok at present, Dr Akshaykumar drew attention of both the Government and insurgents towards the mental sufferings of Heirok people.
The sufferings, fear and trauma being endured by Heirok people cannot be left to them as their fate.
Observing that they have been caught in dire straits in the conflict between the Government and insurgents, he sought due consideration by both the parties.
