Promising to rectify the problems of shortage of doctors and health workers, State Health Director, Dr Suresh today said that no efforts would be spared to appoint the deficit health workers which today stands at about 880 including doctors.
Speaking to reporters during an inspection tour of the health centres at from Sekmaijin to Khordak Ichil today, the Health Director said that once the needed doctors and health workers are appointed, at least one doctor will be posted in all Primary Health Centre of the State.
The inspection tour was jointly organised by the UCM, Hqs and its Sekmaijin branch.
The Cabinet ahs already given its approval to appoint the needed doctors and health staff to cover the 72 PHCs, 16 CHC and 420 PHSC, said the Director and added that the appointment will be effected within two months time.
Once the appointment is finalised, then the transfer and posting of doctors will be rationalised, he added.
The needed material for the health sector is at hand and this was procured from the Rs 1 crore released from the Non-Lapsable Pool, said Dr Suresh.
If Ayush doctors, ANM and other staff are appointed under the Rural Health Mission, then there will be a marked improvement in the health sector of Manipur, opined the Health Director.
The health centres which were inspected today included, the Sekmaijin PHC, Laphupat Tera PHSC, Arong Khunou PHSC and Khordak Ichil PHSC.
Construction work of the PHSC at Laphupat Tera was finalised in 1998 but it never inaugurated.
No staff was seen at the health centre during the inspection tour today while at Arong Khunou, it was learnt that the pharmacist has not reported for duty for a long time.
The PHSC at Khoradk was found turned into a grocery store by the helper who also donated the land for the health centre.
The centre was turned into a grocery store as no staff has been posted there.
It was the same story in all the other health centres which were inspected today.
