Imphal, Aug 10:
Acting on the report submitted by the Committee of High Rise Buildings and Hyper Sensitive Security Areas of Imphal, six zones of Imphal have been identified and all the high rise buildings within these zones would be demolished, informed a reliable source.
The Committee of High Rise Buildings and Hyper Sensitive Security Areas of Imphal was constituted on October 20 last year with Special Secretary (Home) Christopher Doungel.
The eight member committee after undertaking a survey of the security sensitive areas including the Raj Bhawan and the Chief Minister's bungalow, have identified these six zones as hyper sensitive areas.
Under the Committee, a sub-committee headed by Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Y Surchandra was constituted on July 13 this year, to identify high-rise buildings for demolition within these six zones categorised as hyper sensitive zones.
Even as the sub-committee has submitted its survey report on July 24, the State Government is yet to initiate any discussion on the matter, informed the source.
However, it added that a definite decision may be adopted in this regard after the arrival of the Chief Minister from Delhi.
Of the high-rise buildings identified for demolition, many Government offices are also included.
The State Guest House, AG Office, BSEM building, TD Office, New Secretariat Building and many other tall buildings at Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazar are among those identified for demolition.
Moreover, numerous high rise buildings in Babupara belonging to many sitting and former MLAs and Ministers, though not registered under their own names are also included in the list, conveyed the source.
In addition to demolition of high rise buildings constructed illegally against the Imphal Municipality Buildings Bye-Laws 1969, legal actions may also be initiated against the owners, disclosed the source.
In this connection, a notification was issued by the Imphal Municipal Council on August 4 whereby the six hyper sensitive zones were declared and instructed all concerned to seek building approval from IMC prior to construction of high rise buildings within these zones.
