Lamenting on the non-completion of embankment works at the river bank of Iril River at Keirao Bitra Mutum Leikai in Imphal east district taken up the IFC Department, residents of the area today demanded completion of the same before the onset of the rainy season.
With apprehension of facing flood during the rainy season, locals of the Keirao Mutum Leikai today inspected the portion of the river bank where the embankment work was found incomplete under the leadership of the social worker N Ibotomba.
Members of Keirao Bitra Apunba Meira Paibi, Youth Development Centre and Irilbung Library Union and other club and organisations of the area took part in the inspection.
The area where the embankment work was taken up by the IFC Department was a portion which is very vulnerable for breach during pick time in the rainy season, said Meira Paibi Secretary N Chandrabali.
The embankment work of 100 meter with a height of 20 feet was started around a year back and remained incomplete after walling upto 10 feet height completed.
She also said that the work had been stopped saying that it has completed.
Quality control was also not done as the RCC wall of the embankment broke even when touch by hand and there were apprehension of breaching during the rainy season.
She also recalled that the embankment work was stopped in the mid when an underground group demand money but it was resumed following public pressure.
