The 60th birthday of Auang San Suu Kyi, Nobel Peace Prize winner and leader of pro-democracy movement in Myanmar was celebrated at two places in Moreh yesterday.
Women League of Burma and Burma Women Union separately observed the function as per their programme inspite of strong prior orders against it by Myanmar authority.
In the morning, the two organisations offered flowers and sweets to the public.
The first observation was held at Jabudiba Wisdom Monastery, W/No.9 by Burma Women Union (BWU) from 11.30 am with around 70 persons including Burmese Buddhists, children, and members of BWU.
The main programme of the observation was focused on praying to God for her ceaseless effort to her struggle for democracy.
Apart from this, all the participants also offered meals and sweets.
The second function was held at HTC office, Moreh by Women League of Burma with Kuki Women Organisation on Human Rights.
In this programme attended by around 60 members from Kuki Students Organisation, HTC Central Committee, its unit committee, church leaders Kuki students democratic federation, president of the Women League of Burma Mrs Chichin gave the welcome address.
