Construction of the 2500 MT capacity FCI godown at Jiribam is almost completed but so far the weight bridge which is much needed to store and lift foodstuffs has not been installed, disclosed a reliable source.
According to the source, one the weight bridge is installed and construction of the godown is completed, the transportation of food items would be much easier for the transporters along the National Highway 53.Owing to frequent disruption on shipping the foodstuffs meant for the State from FCI godown at Dimapur on National Highway 39, the Corporation's godown at Silchar which is having a huge storage capacity of 18,000 MT has been operational since the last few days, the source informed.
The foodstuffs kept at Silchar godown is being transported both by train and trucks via Lamding railway station, the source added.
Meanwhile, the Manipur University authority has fixed October first week as the tentative schedule to begin the survey works on the areas through which the proposed alternative route to touch Jiribam would be construction.
�We have made the tentative programme in the first week of October for undergoing the survey task by faculty members and research scholars of the varsity's Earth Science and Geography Departments', Vice Chancellor of the University Dr N Bijoy Singh said while talking to The Sangai Express.
Fertilisers distributed: As part of the exercise to make fertilisers available to the farmers, the State Govt has started distributing fertilizers to the farmers of Imphal East, Imphal west, Thoubal and Bishnupur District through respective police stations today.
In case of Thoubal and Khangabok kendra, the distribution started from yesterday evening at around 5 and nearly 240 bags of fertilizers were distributed, said a source from Thoubal police station.
The MLA of Thongju Assembly Constituency Bijoy Koijam distributed nearly 250 bags of fertilizers at SWFC, Pheijaleitong.
According to a source from Kakching Police Station, nearly 1000 bags of fertilizers were distributed to around 800 farmers.
Unfortunately, a large number of farmers could not avail the opportunity and are waiting for further supplies to be provided, it added.
Meanwhile, about 100 bags of fertilizers were distributed to the farmers of Bishnupur.
