Itanagar, August 10:
To protest 'illegal and unlawful' arrest of its collea- gue Thangzachin Paite and inaction of State Government despite intimation for action against police personnel involved in the case the Manipur Division of All India Postal Employees' Union today submitted memoranda to the Governor, chief Minister and other relevant officials threatening to launch indefinite ceasework strike.
While contending that Thangzachin, who is the postman of Imphal Head Post Office, was arrested based on misleading information provided by an arrested person the memorandum also prevailed upon the State and postal services authorities for a departmental inquiry to ascertain veracity of the Imphal city Police claim of the postman delivering a disputed registered letter to an person other than the addressee on May 25, 2005.The representation asserting that Thangzachin was on leave from May 2 till 31 questioned rationale and motive of the arrest as implicating the postman on charges of delivery of article during the leave period arises suspicion on whe-ther the law enforcing agen- cy had overlooked necessity of establishing the truth.
Demanding dropping of case, if any, framed against Thangzachin, appro- priate action against the guilty police personnel and ordering a departmental inquiry to ascertain the fact at the earliest the Union's memo threatened to resort to the indefinite agitation from August 14 onwards.
