Imphal, January 15:
Due to inadequate provision of security force personnel the electoral roll re-verification process at some select hill district areas have been stalled following reports of armed men abducting an SDO ranked official assigned for the duty.
According to informed sources, the SDO was later released on the same day but the electoral roll revision personnel on grounds of lack of security had reportedly returned back from their respective places of assignment particularly from Saikul and Saitu assembly constituencies.
The SDO is informed to have been abducted by suspected underground organisation activists during re-verification process at an Imphal East district area.
The re-verification process was ordered after abnormal population growth was reported in some hill district areas during the last electoral roll revision conducted under instruction of the ECI.
The source also revealed that most of the poll personnel deputed to conduct the re-verification expressed reluctance to carry on with the assignment until adequate security personnel are provided for the tasks.
Consequently an emergency meeting chaired by the Chief Electoral Officer V Chibber was held today to discuss on the problem and other related matters.
