Imphal, January 07:
Alleging that conduct of teachers (lecturers) in the ongoing TDC III year examination are not upto the mark in terms of checking practice of unfair means the Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (Desam) warned of punitive action against such recalcitrant teachers.
Informing that a Desam team during inspection of exam centres came across many cases of invigilators showing leniency inspite of the fact the examinees are using unfair means, the student body said allowing the students to copy is detrimental to endeavour for quality education in the State.
It also categorically remarked that duties of MU officials should not be limited to mere preparation of examination related procedures and provision of materials but should also strive to prevent use of unfair means.
Appealing to the teacher community to discharge their assignments in a pro-per manner Desam said in consultation with MU authorities stern action would be pursued against those OCs/invigilators showing undue leniency during examinations.
In another statement, the students body flayed the State Government for its ineffective education policy and urged the Government to ensure rights to education to all the students.
In a statement, publicity and propaganda secretary of the students body Kh Shyamsunder Luwang while lamenting that the standard of education in the State has been deteriorating over the past few decades alleged that the Education Dept has become a centre of corruption.
It is really unfortunate that the performance of the Government educational institutions in the State has been pathetic over the years with some of the schools even completely blanked out from the results of the annual examinations conducted by BSEM and CHSEM, the statement noted.
Asking the purpose of maintaining the Education Department if it could not even find out the exact number of employees and teachers working under it, DESAM said that the officials of the Department should be ashamed of this.
