Imphal, January 07:
The source of the powerful blast at Moirang Khunou yesterday evening that killed two siblings and their aunt has been linked to a lethod bomb recovered from a paddy field by one of the victims.
According to police and family sources, one of the deceased kids Heisnam Lokendra (13) s/o H Tomba found the under-barrel explosive device from a paddy field located at Moirang Khunou Mamang Loubuk and brought it home.
Lokendra is said to have recovered the explosive device when a tractor was ploughing the field.
Unaware of the dangerous device, Lokendra captivated by the look of the lethod took it home as a room decoration but accidentally dropped the bomb a few feet from the verandah and the blast took place killing the 13 year old and his elder sister Lilibala who was at the verandah.
The aunt identified as Apabi was working at the nearby kitchen garden and died due to the impact of the blast.
Police sources speculated that the explosive device might have been misfired by suspected underground activists who had targeted the newly established CRPF camp on several occasions.
Tombas house is situated barely 100 metres from the CRPF post, added the source.
