A large number of organisations and individuals have come forward to extend their help to the victims of the tsunami disaster, with the Committee for Tsunami Disaster Relief able to collect a sum of Rs 15,199 today alone.
Led by the editor of Sanaleibak, A Mobi, the Relief Committee collected a sum of Rs 15,199 today alone from the public.
Out of this, Rs 4312 was donated at the Committee's camp at Dharamshala while Rs 10,889 was collected during a donation drive at Thangal bazar from 1.30 pm till 4.30 pm today, said the Committee in a statement.
The Committee launched its drive on January 5 and till date it has been able to collect Rs 23,647.A similar drive will be launched at Paona bazar tomorrow, added the statement.
A bank account of the Relief Committee has also been opened at Vijaya Bank.
The Tamil Sangam, Moreh has also collected Rs 27,524 today for the tsunami victims.
Till date the Tamil Sangam has been able to collect Rs 1.5 lakhs and the amount collected till January 15 will be sent to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Relief Fund.
The Sangam has also appealed to all to contribute their mite.
Young Women�s Christian Association, Imphal will be conducting a door to door donation campaign for the victims of tsunami disaster as part of the nation-wide campaign being launched under the aegis of YWCA, national headquarters, New Delhi.
Announcing this in a statement today, chairperson/president of YWCA, Imphal unit Lal Lien Zuol alias TL Julie Haokip has appealed to all the people to extend their cooperation and donate generously towards the cause.
Meanwhile, Bharat Pensioners� Samaj, Manipur State Council has condoled the death of over 1.5 lakhs in tsunami tidal waves triggered by an undersea earthquake off the coast of Sumatra Island, Indonesia in Indian Ocean.
