Imphal, January 07:
Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh has issued strict instructions to take up fitting action against some contractors and officials concerned for withdrawing the money meant for constructing the road from Imphal to Koirengei without finishing the work.
The work order was issued four years back.
According to a highly placed source, the Chief Secretary decided to act tough after a spot inspection of the said route along with the Principal Secretary (Works) AE Ahmed and top ranking officials of the PWD today.
Elaborating, the source said the work order for constructing a four lane road on the said route was issued four years back.
The total amount for the said contract work was about Rs 8.5 crores.
Out of this total amount a sum of Rs 2 crores has been released, said the source.
However as little progress has been made, the Chief Secretary today issued written instructions to take up fitting action against the contractors and the officials concerned for the undue delay in finalising the work, added the source.
If any further delay is detected in finalising the work on the 4 km stretch, then the amount which has already been released might be reclaimed, added the source.
Fund is not a constraint, said the source and added that the undue delay has resulted in unnecessary congestion on the busy route.
Meanwhile Chief Minister O Ibobi today convened a meeting with the Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary (Works) to discuss the plot of land purchased by the State Govt at Gurgaon, but which has not been developed at all.
The meeting decided to instruct the Resident Commissioner, Manipur Bhawan, Delhi to intimate to the Haryana Urban Development Authority that Manipur intends to develop the plot of land as an institutional area, added the source.
