Imphal, December 14:
Expressing strong annoyance at the 'hard stance' of State's political parties and the Government led by O Ibobi Singh regarding opposition to delimitation of assembly constituencies Joint Action Committee, Manipur (Hills) observed that attempt to paint the delimitation process with a controversial tinge would be harmful to the State in the long run.
A press statement issued by the Committee decrying indifferent attitude of State leaders on the issue construed that such gesture vividly reflects undermining the interest of the hill people and mocking at their aspiration and sentiment.
There is no reason why such leaders should oppose approved process for increasing people's representative in the hill areas other than compromising the sentiment and aspiration of the hill people compared to concentration of most development activities in the valley districts, fumed the JAC.
The JAC alleging successive State Governments of neglecting the hill areas in the context of overall development categorically asserted that the tribal people would no longer tolerate such discriminatory policy and take befitting action in case delimitation process is not carried out in the true spirit and principle.
