Imphal, December 14:
In continuing agitation pursued by pensioners which included dharnas, relay hunger strike and many other non violent forms, the pensioners including aged citizens protested at the gate of chief minister's bungalow today.
However, timely arrival of security personnel prevented the matter from going out of hand in the highly sensitive zone.
After a series of agitation of various forms which included sit-in-protests at different places of the State capital and relay hunger strike from November 18, the move to gherao the CM's official residence was resorted to drive home their points, stated an aged pensioner in a press briefing near the site.
The dilly dallying tactics and irresponsibility of the State Government is causing immense hardships and giving severe blow to the pensioners as they have no other source of income other than their meagre pension amount, lamented another.
They further informed that there are about 30,000 pensioners in the State among whom about 30 came to gherao at the CM's gate today to air plight on behalf of all the pensioners and their legitimate rights.
Despite all attempts by security personnel to thwart the agitation, the pensioners stuck to their ground for some minutes holding placards with their demands written clearly.
After ousting them from the gate of CM's bungalow, the pensioners were made to wait for permission to call on the chief minister for several hours of the Telegraph office.
