Even as the dust is yet to settle down over the furore kicked up over the transportation of one truck load of fertilisers to Moreh by an MLA against the standing order of the Government to ban transportation of the same to Chandel district, matter has come to light that a top ranking police officer of the rank of CO too may be involved in the attempt to smuggle in fertilisers to Moreh some time back.
To get to the bottom of the matter and establish facts, DIG (Armed police), RK Radhesana has been assigned the task of conducting the probe.
Talking to The Sangai Express a reliable source said that the police officer of the rank of CO was detained by Moreh police while trying to smuggle in Urea on December 6.To establish the facts and fix responsibility, DIG RK Radhesana has already started conducting a probe into the matter.
All the relevant files and documents have been submitted to the DIG by Moreh police in connection with the case, said the source and added that verification process of the officer and personnel who were detained along with the fertilisers is on.
As per initial reports submitted by Moreh police, intelligence and Customs, the truck load of Urea was caught while the fertilisers were being off loaded from the truck on the Myanmar-India border.
The truck may be carrying around 100 bags of Urea, said the source.
It is however not yet clear how long it will take to finalise the investigation and dispose off the case, said the source.
On the other hand the Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal P Vaiphei has issued a notification to dispose off the truck load of Urea seized by Moreh police on September 27 this year.
