Spelling out the need to lay stress on the development of the minorities, especially the Muslims and tribal people of the State, Lok Sabha MP Dr T Meinya today said that his attention will be focused on the development of the minority people.
Speaking at the silver jubilee celebration of the Liangmei Naga Katimai Ruangdi (Students' Union), at LMS Law College today, the MP said that students have a pivotal role to play in the overall development of the State and asked the Liangmei students to contribute their best mite towards this goal.
All students should unite to fight and struggle for their cause and interest, the MP exhorted and noted the role played by the Liangmai Students Union during its long period of existence.
The LNSU also submitted memorandum to the MP urging him to construct a community hall at Liangmei Langol Tarung equipped with a computer training centre from his local area development fund.
Though the MP assured that he would take up necessary steps to fulfill the aspirations of the student body, he also informed the gathering that so far he has received representations to take up developmental works which have crossed the estimated cost of Rs 50 crores.
Dr Meinya donated a sum of Rs 2000 to the student body.
Incentive awards were also distributed by the MP to meritorious students of the Liangmei community during the function.
Justice (Retd) and Chairman of MHRC WA Shishak who attended the function as guest of honour, released a souvenir.
MLA Z Mangaibou graced the function as the president.
