The State Government has decided to provide relief assistance to families affected by natural calamities in nine districts in between 2002 and 2003 as well as to families whose properties have been damaged this year at Senapati district.
The decision to provide the assistance is based on approval of the Screening Committee report during the October 22 meeting of the State Level Calamity Relief fund Committee chaired by Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh.
The meeting perused through the Screening Committee�s report of 37447 pending cases in the nine districts affected by natural calamities (floods) in between August 21, 2002 and February 18, 2004, and approved sanction of financial assistance to the tune of 25 percent of the figure recommended by the Screening Committee of the CRF.
The recommended amount totals Rs 5,83,18, 430 for cases that mostly occurred in the year 2002.The meeting also approved providing assistance for damages to agricultural land due to landslides in the following Senapati district villages of Keithelmanbi, Gopibung Kuki, Gopibung Nepali, Toribari, Songpekjang Kuki, Songpekjang Nepali, Manendra, Chandraman, Govajang, Bongmol and parsain.
While rejecting proposals for assistance related to hailstorm and withering of Yongchak trees, the State level panel comprising of top officials of various concerned departments also resolved to provide relief at half the amount recommended by the Screening Committee for other Senapati district villages claimed to have been effected by natural calamities.
