With their demands yet to evoke positive response from the State authorities, members of All Manipur Government-aided College Teachers� Association are set to stage a �fast unto death� agitation from August 28 onwards.
Disclosing the agitation programme to news persons at Hotel Excellency today general secretary of the association Dr RK Noren said absolute absence of requisite initiative even after 65 days of agitation is not only worrisome for the teachers� community but also reflects inconsiderate attitude of the Government.
Alleging callousness on the part of the Government in finding an amicable solution to the ongoing impasse, the general secretary observed that State authorities� stoic silence is akin to sending out a chilling message that lives of aided-college teachers are worthless and affordable to rot.
Constrained by existence circumstances, the teachers� body had to opt for the �fast unto death� agitation as ongoing ceasework strike has failed to drive home the point to the Government, he mentioned.
The phased-wise agitation would begin with the first batch of 20-25 Association members.
In all the Association has 489 members, Dr Noren added.
