Planning and Development Authority (PDA) chairman K Ranjit has stated that players from a small State like Manipur who brought laurels for the country at various international level sporting events should be encouraged.
Speaking as chief guest of the closing function of the 37-day long Ist All Manipur Residential Free Boxing Coaching Camp being organised by Athletic Union, Sugnu since October 15 at Sugnu High School ground today, Ranjit said after its rich and vibrant culture, Manipur occupies a place of pride among the Indian States in games and sports.
He said the people all over the world are envious of the sporting talents of the Manipuri players who have outshined their competitors in various disciplines and brought laurels for the country at various international sporting events.
So the players should be encouraged and giving them proper guidance, he said, adding that the players should also remember that the people of Manipur would always stand by them.
In his presidential address, MANITRON Chairman Bijoy Koijam reiterated that it is through sports and culture that Manipur is known to the world.
However, education is also very important so the players should also pay attention on education along with honing their sporting talents, he said.
MLA of Kshtrigao A/C Vivek Raj Wangkhem and Additional DGP Y Joykumar were also present at the occasion as guests of honour.
In all 49 boys and girls successfully participated in the 37-day long camp which was conducted with Ibomcha as chief coach.
Boxers from Sports Authority of India (SAI) performed exhibition matches as part of the valedictory function of the camp.
Ranjit fumes: Sugnu A/C MLA and PDA Chairman K Ranjit has expressed displeasure over the slow pace of construction work on the building of the Sugnu Police Station at Sugnu Bazar during an impromptu inspection trip today.
The construction work of the said building has been going on since November last year under Manipur Police Housing Corporation.
The MLA has also issued strong warning of taking up action if the work is not completed by December this year.
Talking to The Sangai Express, Managing Director of Manipur Police Housing Corporation Y Joykumar has Corporation has been facing lots of unforeseen difficulties including bandh, blockade, etc in taking up the construction work.
He also assured that every possible measures would be taken up to complete construction of the building within December this year.
