Lamka, November 22:
Churachandpur District Students Union today reacted to the MEELAL statement by burning more Mayek books and issued a statement rebuking MEELAL.
After setting ablazed a good number of Mayek text books confiscated from students of St Stephen's High School, CDSU issued a statement signed by its president K Doukum and secretary Lal Robul.
The release claimed that its on-going anti-mayek drive is not directed against any particular community or society but is only an act of implementing ATSUMs resolution.
It even claimed that CDSU was forced to act and clarified that the All Naga Students Association, Manipur (ANSAM) had long started the drive a long time back which means that the anti-Mayek drive encompasses the entire hill districts and not only Churachandpur alone.
Reacting to the term uncivilised allegedly used by MEELAL against the anti-Mayek drive, the student body advised MEELAL to take time to reflect and rectify.
The student body countered with the question whether torching of State Library, burning of the railway reservation counter and disrupting the process of form submission by job seekers for primary teachers are civilised acts.
CDSU also reminded MEELAL how linguistic imperialism led to the creation of the present State of Meghalaya after carving it out from Assam.
Appealing to the general public not to panic due to the MEELAL threat and to still desist from display Meitei Mayek on their vehicles, CDSU warned that stern action will be taken to anyone found guilty of violating their call.
