Two more release election manifestoes CPI pledges all-round development

Imphal, January 18, 2012: Communist Party of India Manipur State Council has pledged to root out corruption, work for a stable Government and implement a composite scheme for the development of the hill areas of Manipur.

These pledges were made by the Council's secretary Dr M Nara while releasing the CPI election manifesto for the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly election, at Irabot Bhavan today.

Terming the upcoming Assembly election as the most crucial adult franchise process ever held in Manipur, Dr Nara opined that the democratic exercise is an opportunity for the people for cementing the State's integrity, spur all-round development, usher an era of peace and tranquillity, and to ensure a stable Government.

While expressing that the next Government would be a coalition Government, he said for stability of the coalition Government the CPI needs to have substantial number of MLAs in the 11th Manipur Legislative assembly.

Asserting that the CPI would be a coalition partner in the next Government, Dr Nara also claimed that popularity and stature of the CPI have been gradually on the rise in the hill districts which is a positive development for emboldening the CPI to go alone in the hill district constituencies.

He also clarified that due to repentance on the issue of law and order problem in the State he stepped down as chairman of the SPF Government's Steering Committee.

Elucidating on the party's election manifesto, Dr Nara said CPI would strive to translate into action development programmes, root out corruption, promote a transparent Government, pursue political dialogue to resolve insurgency and save Irom Chanu Sharmila's life through total removal of the draconian AFSPA 1958 from the soil of Manipur.

The CPI will also focus on protecting the territorial integrity of Manipur and concentrate on all-round development in the hill areas for fostering emotional integrity, said CPI leader while affirming that the party will also work for enacting a suitable land law with special emphasis on the hill districts.

The CPI manifesto released today also contained a composite scheme for development of the hill areas along with implementation of sustainable economic policies through devolution of power to the local bodies in the hills.

The manifesto also stresses on a legislation prohibiting permanent settlement of non-locals in Manipur, ensuring PDS items reach the common public, work for industrial growth, road development, adequate compensation of land owners affected by the Loktak Project, holistic rehabilitation measures for the evicted Loktak dwellers, development of the national highways and its protection with the deployment of highway protection force and curb HIV/AIDS problem in the State.
