Imphal, January 18, 2012:
A public meeting held today at the Ima Khunthokhanbi Laibung, DM College Campus organised by the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) resolved to adopt the proposed admission and monthly tuition fees in the private schools across the state until the state government fixed a common rate.
The public meeting resolved to press the state government to fixed a common rate for admission and tuition fees for the private schools and give the 75 percent of the fees collected to the teachers.
It also resolved to form a guardian committee on School fees.
Prof W Nabakumar who attended the meeting as moderator said that people of the state have a tendency to endure whatever inconvenience they faced silently.
Guardians are not saying anything when the various private schools in the state are charging a very high amount of admission and monthly tuition fees from the students unreasonably.
Fed up with the nature of the private schools and the guardians, AMSU is now raising its voice to free the guardians from the diktat of the private schools.
It is very important to have a good relation and understanding among the guardians, teachers and school authorities for a good academic atmosphere.
If one of the section tries to supersede the remaining, the atmosphere will not be a healthy one which might led to unwanted consequences, Prof Nabakumar added.
Leihaothabam Saratchandra, a guardian who attended the meeting expressed the possibilities of a guardian committing crimes just to pay the unreasonably high amounts of admission and monthly tuitions fees of the schools.
It is high time to check the diktat of the school authorities who sees the school as a business to earn handsome fortune.
The meeting later resolved to hold a similar meeting at the same place on January 29 with guardians, teachers and school authorities to discuss the matter.
