Journal on Alzheimer released

Social Welfare Minister, Ak Mirabai today released a journal of the National Alliance for Elder People Livelihood Resource Advocacy and Chronic Disease of India and Alzheimer's and Relative Disorder Society of India, Manipur Chapter, Imphal today at her office at New Secretariat.
Apart from releasing the journal, 'Ageing and Alzheimer's Disease,' the minister has also released the annual report of Manipur Social Welfare Board and a poster to mark the World Alliance Day observance on September 21 .
The occasion was also graced by Chairperson of Manipur State Social Welfare Board, RK Nayansana and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry department, JNIMS, Dr K Shantibala as the president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Ak Mirabai said the young generations should identify and acknowledge the problems and needs of the elders while stating that elders should not be kept wanting.
RK Nayansana said the restive atmosphere in the State is going to enhance the chance of developing psychiatrical problems among the elders of the society.
Stating that around three million people of India were suffering from Alzheimer's disease in 2009 while a total of 39 million people of the world suffered from it, Nayansana noted that the number is increasing year by year.
She said the victims of Alzheimer's disease are forgetful, unretentive, and even they have the tendency to forget their spouse.
It is illogical to have a blind belief that they are paid back of their past sins and mistakes, RK Nayansana said while adding that they are suffering from a disease developed through old age.
She said it is necessary to treat senior citizens with respect, and to notice their
needs and wants.
