'Manipur State Commission for Women not toothless'

Asserting that the Manipur State Commission for Women is empowered by Manipur State Commission for Women Act, 2006, the Rongmei Lu Phuam (RLP) has said that the commission has a empire of jurisdiction to try the case of Leishiwon, in whose assault case the commission had admitted of being 'helpless' .
Being empowered by Manipur State Commission for Women Act, 2006 under section 10 (1) (c), (d) (i), (ii), the commission has a jurisdiction to try the case of Leishiwon, a resident of New Canan Village, who was tortured and harassed by personnel of State force.
"Such powerful State Women Commission became impotent due to the incompetency of its officers is unfortunate, " stated a statement of RLP signed by its president Panti Golmei.
The statement pointed out that the Chairperson of MSCW is above the rank of Deputy Speaker of the state Assembly/Minister of State and above the rank of chief secretary, Chairman of MOSC and DGP and VC of MU .
