Editor of Manipur Mail N Sanatomba was today honoured with the State Journalist Award, 2007 on the occasion of Information and Public Relations Day today.
The observance organised under the aegis of Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) at its complex here was attended by Information Minister TN Haokip as chief guest and Commissioner of IPR Devshekhar Sharma as functional president.
Speaking at the occasion, TN Haokip urged the Editors and publishers of the newspapers in the State to take up some measures to upgrade the standard of the newspapers and said that newspapers will benefit from the Look East Policy.
The Information Minister disclosed that DIPR is considering to confer four journalist awards from next year onward.
The awards are Best Editor's Award (National Integrity and Harmony), Rural Reporting, Public and Health Sanitation and Reporting with Special Reference to Woman and Child.
Each of these awards would carry a cash reward of Rs 25,000, he added.
In his presidential address, Commissioner of IPR Devshekhar said construction of a new building of the Department is being carried out on war footing, although one person has adamantly refused to vacate from the land area where the new building is to come up.
IPR day at Senapati : At Senapati district headquarters, the Information Day was also celebrated with N Kashung Deputy Sports Officer of District Youth Affairs and Sports, as the chief guest today.
Information Day was also reportedly celebrated in other district headquarters of the State.
