The Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench has today ruled that if the 17 Assam Rifles or any authority have arrested one Th Lukhoi Singh then he should be handed over the nearest police station.
The Court's ruling followed a Habeas Corpus petition filed by the wife of Lukhoi, Ashalata Devi of Kakwa Huidrom Leikai.
According to the petition, Lukhoi (55) was picked up by personnel of 17 Assam Rifles on.
March 30 at about 1.30 am from his residence and he has not been handed over to the police.
The Court also issued notices on the respondents making it returnable within three weeks.
Advocate and human rights activist Kh Mani appeared in favor of the petitioner.
The listed respondents include the CO of 17 AR, Secretary, Home Affairs, State of Manipur represented by the Chief Secretary, State DGP and GOC 57 Mountain Division.
Meanwhile in a statement, MPP said that shortly after Lukhoi was picked up Ashalata submitted a formal complaint to MLA O Joy, Chief Secretary, DGP and others.
O Joy subsequently brought the matter to the notice of the State Government and handed over a letter to Union MoS for Defence Raja Gopal.
