Thanks to the intensive exploitations in the Manipur hills, especially by the hunters, various species of animals have been seen no more in the areas.
The black monkey and antelope are reported to have disappeared completely in the recent times, otherwise which the hill areas like Tamei and Bunning are the habitat of these animals.
The famous hornbills of Tamei have also numbered, according to the locals.
Magulong and Katang villages of Manipur bordering Nagaland used to be the homes of wild elephant two decades ago but today not a single elephant can be spotted said the locals.
About 20 species of bird and 10 species of animals are reported to have disappeared altogether in Tamenglong districts, if locals are to be believed.
They said that animals like bear, Pangoline (ant-eater) and tiger have been hunted by the locals for mainly commercial purposes.
