As part of the worldwide campaign to put a halt to the ongoing US led war on Iraq, around 1200 students of Don Bosco School, Chingmeirong have written letters directly to the US President George W Bush requesting him to end the war.
The students reading between class III and X wrote the 'letters during the last couple of days after they were given the norms, regulations of writings such letters and address of the US President, according to a teacher of the school, Babloo Waikhom.
With the consent to go through his letter, one Ngamring Shadang reading in class III wrote "We don't want another 3rd World War, war is not a solution but a problem, respect other's sovereignty and freedom and Peace can never be brought through war".
All the letters would be kept at the school under the care of Babloo.
The letters would be sent to President Bush tomorrow, Babloo said.
In the meantime hundreds of women vendors of Khwairamband Keithel staged a sit-in-protest against the war on Iraq at Khwairamband Keithel and its roads leading to Thangal Bazar today.
The protest was organized by Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup.
The women also put up slogans reading "Hands off Iraq", "Bush Pham Tha Dok U" etc.
The women said they are against war of any sort and the only way to ensure world peace is for the super power to stop flexing its muscle and bullying the other militarily weak countries.
So many civilians have also been killed, they lamented.
