Imphal, May 05:
In pursuance of their various demands, about 300 part-time lecturers under the banner of All Manipur Government Higher Secondary Part Time Lecturers' Association staged sit-in-protest in front of Keishampat Lairembi today.
Among others, the part timers rued that minimum basic pay given to the part-timers since 1999 has been abruptly stopped by the present State Government from October last year.
Out of 43 high secondary schools in Manipur the part-time lecturers have been dispensing their duties at 22 such institutions, said the teachers and added that they have also been complying with the transfer and posting orders of the Government.
A number of part time lecturers have been posted at far flung areas, they said and added that though they have been sincerely discharging their duties, the Govt has failed to look into their grievances.
They further said that as per Govt policy, the part-timers are barred from serving or posting at other departments and questioned the Government's decision not to allow them to serve in the other departments while at the same time, they have not been paid their pay for the services rendered.
The part-timers demanded extension of service till an order is effected on the matter, revision of pay to ensure payment of basic pay and implementation of policies initiated for them.
Asserting that their demands are genuine, the lecturers said they would stage sit-in-protests at 15 higher secondary schools till the demands are conceded.
