Nagaland today witnessed one of the most peaceful polling environment with no report of clashes either between the underground factions or between political parties and the most remarkable chapter in the history of general elections in Nagaland was that not even a single shot was fired either from any underground groups in the State during the polling.
Although, re-polling in polling booth no 7 in Yali Village under 51 A/C Noksen will take place as 5 votes were found more than the actual total votes.
The total votes in Polling Booth No 7 in Yalli Village are 597 and 602 votes were found exceeding 5 votes.
In one incident in Chozuba, one Kisosayi, Assistant Teacher in Government High School had damaged one EVM but it had been replaced later and polling resumed peacefully without any disturbances.
Briefing the press persons after the polling in the State was over here in his office conference hall today, Returning Officer TN Manen expressed happiness on the peaceful conduct of the polls throughout the State without any untoward incident.
Asked about undergrounds especially NSCN (IM) involvement in the poll process, Manen opined that people should rather appreciate the direct or indirect participation of elections or polls by any group---be it NSCN (IM) or NSCN (K).
Such development should not be taken otherwise; rather it should be taken as positive, he felt.
Because they were no more illegal organization and unless they violated the election code of conducts, no action could be initiated against them, he explained.
Rakesh Behari, Election Commission Observer who was present during the press briefing also expressed his fullest satisfaction on the peaceful conduct of the polls in the State.
He said he roamed many polling stations today and found that everything went smoothly.
Nagaland Chief Secretary RS Pandey, when contacted over phone, expressed tremendous satisfaction on the peaceful condition under which polling took place through the State.
�The credit for this should be shared by all concerned---the public and political parties and officials deployed on the polls for security duties,� the Chief Secretary explained.
