A youth identified as Salam Naoba alias Naobi alias Pass s/o Krishnamohan of Loitang Khunou Makha Leikai, presently staying at his in-laws' home at Bamdiar was pulled up by PREPAK for extorting a large amount of money from the public.
Naoba was later found shot at Takyel Kolom Leikai late today evening.
Acting on specific information that a gang of extortionists has been operating in Bishnupur district, PREPAK cadres have been on the look out for the gang.
Naoba was pulled up yesterday during a raid undertaken by a team of PREPAK cadres under Pari Ahal of the outfit's Finance Department, said a spokesman of the outfit.
Parading Naoba before media persons at a place in Bishnupur district today, the spokesman said that under one Loyangamba, Nanao exhorted Rs 74,000 from Industries Department, Rs 1 lakh twice in 2004 and 2005 from PHED, Rs 2000 per month from Imphal-Langol Taxi Jeep Association, Rs 2000 per month from Imphal-Kshetrigao Auto Association and Rs 80,000 from buses plying along Mayang Imphal route.
In all his extortion drive, Nanao used the name of RPF, the spokesman said adding that Nanao was also related to KNF (Zougam).
Naoba joined RPF in 2000 before he was apprehended by the army.
Then he worked for KNF for which he was arrested in 2003, the spokesman disclosed.
Over and above this Naoba threatened the Headmistress of Nambol Awang Jiri Primary School demanding work order for a contract work besides intimidating Headmaster of Heikrujam LP School to issue cheque.
Taking advantage of a road mishap, Naoba took Rs 10,000 twice from the vehicle owner (Maruti Zen) from Ghari Awang Leikai using the name of PREPAK, added the spokesman.
