A workshop on inclusion of Thang-Ta and formulation of a common syllabus on the martial arts form was held today at Kangla hall under the aegis of Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts (Thang-Ta) and Cultural Society.
The workshop was graced by Manipur University Vice-Chancellor Dr C Amuba as chief guest.
Padmasree awardee Khelchandra, instructors G Sana, S Nodia Mangang, L Heramot, S Devbratta, G Gourakishore, secretary of Manipur Baptist Convention Vumthang Sithou, Prof A Lokendra, director of Centre for Manipur Studies Prof N Joykumar, president of Kabui Society Lungpuiga Rongmei, vice-president of HERICOUN Rehang Chothe and Birjit Ngangomba were the other presidium members.

Observing that it would not be easy to formulate curriculum and common syllabus on Thang-Ta, Amuba, nevertheless, assured to look into what the Manipur University can do in this regard.
Even as different Thang-Ta instructors and maestros teach the art in their unique models, there should be some basic common elements in all the teaching styles.
Based on those common elements, a common syllabus of Thang-Ta can be formulated, noted the VC.
He lamented that documentation activities on Thang-Ta was very little.
Documentation should be done for the performances as well as in the way done by masters of Thang-Ta, Amuba said.
Saying that there are many people dedicated to Thang-Ta, Birjit Ngangomba appreciated the initiative to formulate curriculum and syllabus for Thang-Ta.
He emphasised on the necessity to incorporate the views of tribal Thang-Ta masters in formulating common syllabus.
The workshop was also attended by many Thang-Ta masters and experts from both the hills and valley.
