A total of ten persons in the age group of 6 months to 40 years including a child have arrived at Shija Hospitals and Research Institute from Nagaland to get their cleft palates corrected.
The ten persons from Nagaland have come to SHRI under a project christened Smile Train Shija Cleft Project-Nagaland Vision and is being conducted under the initiative of the Rotary Club of Kohima, Rotary Club of Imphal and Smile Train Shija Cleft Project.
As part of the first phase the treatment process of the ten patients will start from today while the operation will be conducted tomorrow.

The patients will head back to Nagaland on February 19 .
In the second phase the ten patients will return to the hospital again.
The ten patients will be treated free of cost under the Smile Train Shija Cleft Project and their travel cost too will be borne by the project. The fooding and lodging of the ten patients will be sponsored by another organisation.
Speaking to the media at the conference hall of SHRI after the arrival of the patients from Nagaland, Managing Director of Shija Hospitals and plastic surgeon of the Smile Train Shija Cleft Project, Dr Palin said that anyone born with cleft palate can be operated upon so that they can live as normal beings.
Dr Palin acknowledged the immense help extended by the Rotary Club of Kohima in realising the Smile Train Shija Cleft Project-Nagaland Vision.
Stating that the Smile Train project knows no political boundary, Dr Palin however expressed his disappointment over the manner in which the operation conducted on some Myanmarese was dubbed as unethical.
Expressing his opinion, Dr Palin said that the Governments of India and Myanmar should include the health sector in the list of border trade items.
This will go a long way in promoting people to people contact between the two countries.
SHRI took up the Smile Train project on June 11, 2006 and so far has conducted operations on 1400 patients with lip and cleft palate.
