Imphal, February 11 2009:
Expressing solidarity with the six Principals and two teachers who have been suspended from service for not attending the Republic Day function today, teachers under the aegis of the All Manipur Government Higher Secondary Lecturers' Welfare Association have threatened to stay away from examination duty in the HSLC and HSSLC exams if the Government does not revoke the suspension order by February 20 .
The HSLC and HSSLC examinations are slated to start from February 27 .
Speaking to reporters at TG Higher Secondary School today, general secretary of the Association M Joykumar said that though they have made it clear to the Government that the suspension order of the six Principals and the two teachers should be revoked, there has been no positive response till date.
Stating that they have asked the Government to revoke the suspension order by February 20, Joykumar said that in case their submission is not honoured then teachers under the aegis of the Association will meet on February 21 and a decision to boycott the forthcoming HSLC and HSSLC examinations may be taken.
The general secretary claimed that the Government has no right to penalise the said Principals and the teachers.
Asserting that teachers have no connection with unlawful organisations or members and adding that the cases registered against them are wrong, Joykumar recalled how the teachers were freed by the Court on bail.
Though the Court has granted them bail, the Government is yet to revoke the suspension order of the six Principals and two teachers.
In such a situation how can the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur and Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur conduct their respective examinations smoothly, questioned Joykumar.
Significantly a number of students have also been demanding the revocation of the suspension order of the six Principals and the two teachers.
