After 27 days, the four AMADA activists who were arrested and lodged in jail in connection with beating up a police man during the course of their campaign against drug and alcohol abuse were released today.
The four activists namely Organisation secretary Moirangthem Sanjit, assistant office secretary Kangujam Surchandra, and executive members Takhellambam Boyai and Sanasam Helen were accorded a warm welcome by other activists and volunteers of AMADA at its Keishampat head office.
They were arrested and lodged in the jail on alleged charge of assaulting a police personnel during an anti-liquor drive at Napetpalli on August 10 last.
The AMADA activists charged that the police personnel tried to flee along with the seized illicit liquor.
The reception function presided over by president of AMADA head office L Tomba Meetei was also attended by vice president of United Women�s Front Mangi Devi.
Speaking at the occasion, VP of AMADA Krishnamohon Mangang said although it does not have any grudge against the arrest of its four members, the inability to pay attention to the ongoing campaign while trying to secure their release was regrettable.
AMADA does not believe in calling bandh and general strike over its justified demand.
In continuation of its mission for a drug and alcohol free society, AMADA would pay serious attention and step up its campaign in view of he forthcoming Panchayat election, he said.
He also expressed its gratitude to all the social organisations, Meira Paibis and the people including YAS Minister N Biren and SP of Imphal East L Kailun for their co-operation and support in securing the safe release of the four arrested AMADA member.
