Imphal, September 06:
Taking a serious note of the memorandum submitted to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh by the Outer Lok Sabha MP Mani Charenamei and six UNC sponsored MLAs demanding the dismemberment of Manipur to bring all Naga inhabited areas under one administrative unit, the MPP today organised a one day political conclave and after serious deliberations decided to boycott the MP as well as demand the resignation of the six MLAs.
To discuss the issue, the All Political Party during a meeting had urged the Chief Minister to convene the Assembly.
The same message was also delivered to the Governor as well as the Assembly Speaker.
However no Assembly has been convened to discuss the issue.
Presided by the MPP president Dr L Chandramani and attended by MPP leaders including its Legislature Wing leader O Joy, the party adopted three resolutions during todays deliberations.
Other than the decision to boycott the MP, the other resolutions included supporting the earlier demand to convene a special session of the Assembly to discuss the issue and setting up of a Legislative Council so that adequate representatives can be given to the minority communities.
Addressing the meeting, O Joy questioned why the Government is unwilling to convene a special session of the Assembly to discuss an issue that has a direct bearing on the territorial integrity of the State.
If the session is convened, then the six MLAs and the MP may be questioned why they want to separate from Manipur though they have been elected from this State and represent their respective Constituencies in the Parliament and State Assembly.
Without mincing words, Joy said that the MP and the six MLAs were elected to the Lok Sabha and the State Assembly to represent the people of Manipur and added that if they want to speak on behalf of Nagaland and hurt the interest of the State, then they ought to resign.
The MPP leader further asked whether signing a memorandum that seeks to dismember the territory of Manipur befits the duty of an MLA or an MP and observed that such action sullies the images of all MLAs.
The act of betrayal hurts deeply, asserted Joy.
MPP president Dr Chandramani while addressing the meeting said that the stand of the Chief Minister that there is no need to convene a special session of the Assembly to discuss the issue is meaningless.
The MPP knows that the it alone or the Government cannot protect the territorial integrity of the State, said Dr Chandramani.
What the MPP wants is a debate on whether the demand to disintegrate Manipur is justified or not, he added.
The matter is serious, said Chandramani and observed from the demand raised by some voluntary organisations to break up Manipur and form a Greater Lim, it has now been passed on to some elected representatives of the people.
The act of the Outer LS MP to back the demand of a particular community to lead to the break up of Manipur is also a serious matter, observed the MPP president.
Former MP Th Chaoba and other leaders of the party also addressed the gathering.
