A meeting of the State Cabinet presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi discussed the situation arising out of rivers overflowing in different parts of the State today.
The Cabinet meeting was convened today afternoon, after IFCD Minister N Biren apprised the Chief Minister of the flood situation in the State.
An official team led by N Biren visited the flood ravaged areas in Thoubal district earlier today.
The meeting decided to extend all possible help after proper assessment of the damage done.
So far, the IFCD has amassed 5.80 lakh empty cement bags, 109 split chatai (400 have already been utilised), 770 ordinary chatai and 880 bamboo poles.
In a bid to minimise the effect of the flood and to prevent further destruction, officials and staff of the IFCD have been made to patrol flood prone areas at night, said IFC Minister N Biren adding that he himself has been supervising flood control measures from the flood control room.
He further informed that out of four gates of Ithai barrage, three have been opened.
Immediate relief materials including cash were also provided to people affected by the flood during his visit to those areas today.
During his visit, two houses at Heirok, a local club building at Wangjing and an Anganwadi Centre were found washed away by flood waters.
With the Sekmai river overflowing in between Wabagai and Keirak, the situation was worse there.
Many houses were found flooded and large tracts of paddy fields deluged, conveyed Biren.
According to information received by the press, the Thoubal river is overflowing at Ningombam, Khekman, Moijing, Keibung and Leishangthem.
In Thoubal district, the Wangjing river, the Sekmai river and the Kakching Khunou Tarang river have overflowed their natural courses.
In Bishnupur district, the Nambol river, Leimakhong river, Khabi, Khujairok, Saiton, Lai, Sellungkhong river are flowing over their banks.
