The medical team which was sent to Tingshong Khullen Village under Senapati Dist has confirmed the outbreak of diarrhoea at the village after detecting 28 children infected by the disease.
Dr Vinay Prasad Sahu who headed the team told The Sangai Express that two infants had died of the disease very recently due to non availability of proper medical facilities in the area.
The two infants namely Roziinai (nine months) D/o H Wakhao and Khaomila, (four months) D/o Amose died of acute cold diarrhoea on Feb 1, Vinay said.
However, the exact ailment will be confirmed only after culturing the specimen, he added.
Another five month old baby namely Boy s/o Souther was also found to be suffering from acute Diarrhoea he said adding that proper medical treatment had already been administered to him.
Besides these, the team also detected suspected cases of Diarrhoea on another 28 children below 12 years, all of whom were also given treatment, he added.
Some cases of worm infestation, respiratory tract infection (RTI) and Dysentery were also detected villagers, he added.
Altogether 80 villagers including the 28 children were treated by the team during its assessment task at the village, the doctor said adding that Tiinshong village has a population of about 400 people.
Mention may be made here that the medical team had rushed to the village in the morning of Feb 3 after authorities of the village lodged a report to the Chief Medical Officer Senapati, Dr Bhubonchandra saying that three children died of Diarrhoea.
When contacted, the CMO told this reporter that further assessment would be done at the village even though most of the villagers have been treated.
