All the 215 Haj pilgrims from Manipur are safe and sound and would be returning home after fulfilling their cherish aspiration of visiting the holy Mecca and Medina, said Manipur State Haj Committee chairman MLA Abdul Salam who was a member of the 35-member All India Haj Goodwill delegation addressing a press conference at his official residence here today.
Abdul Salam is the first person who was nominated as a member of the delegation from Manipur.
The delegation comprising of MPs, ex-MPs, journalists, doctors, etc went to Saudi Arabia on a diplomatic mission and to ensure the safety and security of the Haj pilgrims from India.
The delegation led by Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Urban Development Gulam Nabi Azad returned to New Delhi after accomplishing their mission recently.
Speaking on the global participation in the annual Haj pilgrimage, Abdul Salam informed that Indonesia, Pakistan and India were the top three countries which send the largest number of pilgrims this year.
