Imphal, August 29 2010:
The house of an accused person, who not only assaulted a distant female relative, sexually, but also caused unnecessary trouble to members of local club by misleading an underground group, has been dismantled by the local people.
The incident occurred at Laikhong Makha Leikai at around 11.30 pm yesterday.
Though Laikhong Makha Leikai is part of Imphal East district, it falls under the jurisdiction of Yairipok Police Station.
The accused person identified as Warokpam Kullabi Meitei (27) s/o late Ibohal of Laikhong Makha Leikai allegedly attempted to take undue advantage against a woman, who is the wife of his brother-in-law some days earlier.
The incident came to light after the brother-in-law filed a complaint seeking justice with Laikhong Youth Club on August 3 .
Acting on the complaint, the Club convened a joint public meeting of the locality on August 6 .
After hearing both the parties, it was decided during the meeting that Kullabi should pay Rs 1 lakh as penalty to the victim.
As Kullabi had also admitted committing the crime and gave the assurance of paying the amount within August 30, the matter remain rested.
However, on the night of August 27, one Khaba who identified himself as the fighting commander of a KCP group issued threats to finance secretary of the Club namely Laishram Nongyai, through telephone.
In this connection, Nongyai recalled that the caller demanded to know why Rs 1 lakh is to be given over some family matters.
To this, he (Nongyai) explained to the caller about the immoral act of Kullabi.
However, instead of listening to him, the caller directed that the club president and the secretary should come.
Undeterred by such threats, Nongyai asked the caller to come themselves instead of directing the Club members to come.
Infuriated over the turn of the event, local people destroyed the house of Kullabi.
Club advisor Laishram Momon said that in case Kullabi do not apologise to the people of the locality, he would be expelled from the locality permanently and his properties would forfeited.
It is said that the victim who is married to the brother-in-law of Kullabi in the neighbouring locality had gone back to her maternal home a couple of days after the incident.
